Eggscuse me, but…

Why are raw eggs next to the cereal in my local grocery store, and not in some refrigerated section of the market?  Upon bringing them home, do Australians leave them on the counter or put them in the fridge?

  3. ditto me. after living in both switzerland and italy i am still baffled by the warm eggs.

  4. I put them in the fridge. Its normal here, but i don’t get it…

  5. Well, maybe this is a commonwealth thing – it’s the same in South Africa, where eggs are never in the refrigerator and apparently last months. Go figure! You have a stunning blog – I’m so happy to have discovered it. Since I’m busy finishing my dissertation this month, at least I can eat and cook vicariously!!

  6. I had to laugh at this. After moving overseas, this was a stunner for me too! But yes, I think the US is one of the only countries where eggs are refrigerated. Think about it, in their natural state, (when they come out of the chicken), they aren’t refrigerated! So I guess it’s okay. I think they last longer refrigerated, but I can’t be sure without an experiment and fresh-from-the-chicken eggs.
    Love your blog!
