 all-American, all deilcious apple pie

Wasn’t I just whinging about having too much kitchen crap?  Know what did I do right after that?  I bought a new half-size deep dish pie plate!  Makes a lot of sense, right?  Oh bother…at least I think it will get good use.  In fact, I was able to use it right away for this All-American, All-Delicious Apple Pie that Emily of Sandmuffin picked for TWD.

I haven’t made a double-crust apple pie in a few years, and this one was so good (the “all-delicious” is an apt description) that it actually made me feel a little sad thinking about what I’ve been missing.  This was a true deep-dish pie– it was positively stuffed with apples.  In mine, I used a random mix of red and green apples that my husband and I proudly picked ourselves during an orchard outing to Warwick with the in-laws a couple of weeks ago (I probably have enough apples in the fridge to make 20 pies!).  I also used flour to thicken mine, although the recipe calls for tapioca…I didn’t want to buy any, but an equal amount of AP flour worked just fine.

These last couple of pie-crusted treats have turned me on to a bad little habit…purposefully leaving myself one last mini-slice to have for breakfast with a cup of coffee.  Very naughty.

  1. I live in Warwick! So many great orchards here. I am not usually much of an apple pie fan, but this one has changed my mind. Looks great!

  2. Glad this turned out so well! Who doesn’t need that extra pie pan? I know I could use one (in my way overstuffed kitchen cabinets!) 🙂

  3. Trust me, that half size pie plate is an excellent investment! I know, I’m such an enabler. 🙂 Seriously, I use my mini pie plate all the time, as my hubs and i can only eat so much pie.

Beautiful mini-pie, especially that perfect golden brown crust!

    • I already had two other half-size pie dishes (but not deep-dish), plus four smaller single-serve ones. Yikes– I must be stopped!

  4. Pie was good. Can you really have TOO MANY pie pans/cake pans/gadgets in the kitchen. I don’t think so!!!!

    Pie is lovely.

  5. I bet your apple pie is tasting extra delicious with all that handpicked apples. Yumm!

  6. Thanks for baking along with me this week! Your pie looks beautiful- I also loved how many apples were stuffed into the crust! I wish we lived in an area where we could go apple picking, how wonderful!

  7. Beautiful! I couldn’t tell that it was a mini pie from the top picture… but that wee little slice is just the cutest!

  8. Beautiful pie! You can never have too much kitchen crap! 😉

  9. Looks great. You can never have too much kitchen stuff, right? 🙂

  10. But pie IS for breakfast! That’s when I like it best, anyway. Your pie looks perfect.

  11. Naughty but good!! I would love to eat a slice of your pie for breakfast! I love the picture with the writing on it..very americana!

  12. Great idea…I want a half-sie pie plate too….it is hard to deliver half a pie but easy to pass out a mini-pie.

  13. That is a Beauty! I tell myself “No More,” until I find the next irresistible kitchen toy for my cabinet. hehe I think your pie is perfect! Glad you enjoyed with the wonderful apples.

  14. I love eating pie for breakfast, nothing wrong with that at all 🙂 My mini pie plate is one of my favorite dishes – I think you’ll be happy you have it!

  15. Your apple pie looks so enticing. As usual, great photo styling! And how funny it is that I had the same thought of going out to get a new pie dish too, except that I ran out of time. And pie for b’fast is the “in” thing these days. 🙂

  16. I love pie for breakfast so definitely no judgment from me 🙂 My mini pie dish is one of my favorite baking pans, I think you’ll be glad you have it!

  17. I bet that mini slice was coffee’s perfect companion! And I agree with the others, you can never have too much kitchen crap. 🙂

  18. oh you can NEVER have enough baking tools! or…so i tell myself every time i’m trying to jam something new into the cupboard…

  19. I think a half-size pie dish is a genius investment! Maybe that’s why I can’t close my cupboard doors. Your pie is gorgeous, and a confession: I ate most of my full-size pie for breakfast.
    🙂

  20. Looks just perfect. Love the color on your crust and your apples really came out nice as well. I love my little half-size pie pans/plates, Mark loves them the most as he says he gets more crust with the little slices, and he loves crust!!

  21. This pie looks awesome and in my opinion, you can never have enough “stuff” in the kitchen.
