Everyday Dorie: Spring Avocado and Berry Salad

This Spring Avocado and Berry Salad is just wow. I really did not expect to like it so much. My past strawberries-in-salad experiences have all pretty much involved limp leaves overdressed in a creamy goop. Bluck– I’ve learned to stay away. But not this one…this one has a balance of sweet and tart (strawberries and citrus), as well as cool and spicy (avocado and jalapeño). There’s no creamy parmesan peppercorn or whatever here. The dressing is a simple citrus vinaigrette. There really aren’t even any leaves, apart from some fresh herbs scattered about. The salad is so pretty, too, with the reds and greens and speckles of pink peppercorn. I’m a strawberry salad convert.

Agree with Diane, what a beautiful salad. When my blog is up and running again, I look forward to making it. We really don’t have good strawberries yet in Colorado.

- i used grocery store strawberries because they aren’t out locally here, either, but they happened to be fairly nice. i was pleased they weren’t white inside.

Wow such raving review…almost makes me want to try it again haha! I think it was the grapefruit that threw it off for me…I was so disappointed haha I have a fabulous spinach and strawberry salad with a balsamic dressing if you would ever want to expand your strawberry salads haha.

  - I kind of eyeball the amounts as far as the strawberries, feta, and nuts as I plate each salad…and I use glazed pecans from Sprouts. I hope you love this as much as we do…the shallots in the dressing take it to a new level.
