Tuesdays with Dorie: Cherry-Fudge Brownie Torte
October 27, 2009 at 1:00 am | Posted in cakes & tortes, groups, sweet things, tuesdays with dorie | 23 CommentsLet me begin this post with a PSA: Texting while baking can lead to accidents in the kitchen. For instance, if, while you are baking Dorie’s Cherry-Fudge Brownie Torte for TWD, you are also texting one friend about meeting for lunch and another friend about meeting for drinks, it may not register that the recipe calls for cherry preserves and extra chopped chocolate to be stirred into the brownie base . Trust me, I know! Lucky for me it happened with a forgiving cake.
This is definitely a dense and super-rich dessert. The base is essentially a double-height brownie. It was a little too full-on for me, actually. But the mascarpone mousse topping…that is was really nice and light as a feather. While I probably won’t be making this complete dessert again, I think the mousse would make a fantastic cake filling and I’ll keep it in mind.
For the recipe, see Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan, or read Short + Rose, as it was April’s choice this week. Don’t forget to check out the TWD Blogroll!

I don’t know which word in the title appeals to me more…cherry? fudge? brownie? or torte……..a combination that is a winner for sure!!!

Delicate and solid at the same time. I wish I could sink my fork into the computer screen right now!

The cake looks gorgeous. It reminds me of a black forest cake. I have been contemplating on getting the book – this recipe seals the deal for me!

Steph, I couldn’t agree more about the richness of this dessert. Loved the mousse too. And I also added all the chocolate instead of stirring in the last chopped portion. Anyway, yours is beautiful. The mousse as a filling is a great idea.

That looks amazing! I really want to join Tuesdays with Dorie, but I’m afraid all I’ll do is eat. I have no self control.

Thanks for baking with me this week! It looks great. Multi-tasking in the kitchen can be dangerous I found out on more than one occassion.

That mousse was to die for. So yummy. I won’t be making this one again either but I will be making that mousse. It looks wonderful.

What a cute little cake! I made a quarter recipe in a mini springform, so it turned out quite a bit like yours (minus the mousse). And I don’t think I’d miss the chocolate chunks or cherry preserves – the chocolate interrupted the brownie quite a bit, and I couldn’t taste the preserves.

I actually made the full size cake on this one and had to throw it out when it started to become breakfast. Very addicting. Yours looks awesome!

Yes, sometimes twittering while baking is bad too.
Your torte looks wonderful and delicious!

Those omissions really wouldn’t have mattered – the brownie part was lovely with no extras. Yours looks great – I bags the wedge in the photo 😉

Love your little slice of the torte – so cute! I had to sit out this week but I am definitely intrigued by the mascarpone mousse so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it.

Very well done Steph! I was very surprised by that cake… didn’t expect much and it turned out to be very nice and tasty! But in the end really… it didn’t taste much of cherries, so you didn’t miss much.
