chewy chocolate chip cookies

Sometimes I feel like my kitchen is just a cookie factory, but I really do love making them and they’re certainly easy to share. I know I’ll have no problem finding takers for these Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, Dorie’s latest take on the CCC (I guess this one is the CCCC). Dorie’s tricky tweak for these is to add a small amount of oats to the dough…not enough to turn them into an oatmeal cookie, but enough to make them a bit chewy. Also there is so much chocolate, and that makes them nice and gooey, too!

The cookies use a combo of regular granulated and light brown sugars. I don’t have any light brown in the cupboard right now, but I do have plenty of dark muscovado, so I swapped that in, and it definitely made my dough darker in color. I had these in the fridge for a few days before I baked them off, so they stayed chubby and didn’t spread out too much. There are a few in the freezer, too, waiting for the next time a chocolate chip cookie craving strikes. Likely this weekend. Hahaha.

For the recipe, see Everyday Dorie by Dorie Greenspan (it’s also here), and head over to Cook the Book Fridays to see how the group liked this one.

  1. These look so much nicer than mine! I am interested to see how yours bake from frozen, mine spread so much!

  2. These cookies were a delicious delight. I only baked half but I now have something in the freezer to look forward to.

  3. Yours look so perfectly round. Mine turns out much flatter. As Dorie tells us, the dough is a spreader.

  4. Your cookies look fabulous!! Always a great idea to freeze some dough to bake later!

  5. Oooh yummy. That photo looks like it belongs in a cookbook ! These were a hit in our house too. I definitely need to get some in the freezer next time as that is simply a fabulous use of time and cookie dough 🙂

  6. Amazing!

  7. Your Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies look beautiful and I like the look of the size of them, I think I will go that route next time and I noted that in my book, don’t worry, I gave you full credit. :-). I need to figure out the whole chocolate thing…because I don’t like it, I don’t know the differences between good better best in chocolate and when to chop it and all that…is it too late to make a New Year’s Resolution about learning about (gasp) chocolate? Not eating it, just learning about it. Mark eats anything chocolate, I’m not sure he would know the difference but might be worth doing some experiments to find out.

    • never too late to learn about chocolate! although it seems like Mark’s always pleased with your cocoa creations, so I think your baker’s instinct is probably just right. 🙂
