Now that we’ve closed the cover on Baking with Dorie, we are full steam ahead on Dorie’s Anytime Cakes. (By the way, if any of you subscribe to Dorie’s newsletter, she gave TWD a super sweet shout-out in the most recent one.) Fall is prime-time baking season, and getting this First-of-Fall Apple Bundt in the oven will make your house smell like a pot of mulled cider. Cinnamon, brown sugar, maple syrup and apples…does it get more cozy?
The mixing method is easy and standard, and the Bundt tin does all the work turning out a tall, beautiful cake. Dorie recommends finishing this cake with a caramel glaze if you’re feeling fancy or powdered sugar if easy-peasy is more your jam. I’ve had a jar of reduced cider syrup in my fridge that I picked up so long ago I’ve forgotten where, and I decided to finally use it up here. I mixed it with some golden rum (my secret ingredient for baked goods) and painted the outside of my cake with the boozy concoction. The cake is so moist and such a beautiful color. My favorite bits of a Bundt are those little in-between sections. I like slicing off those slim slivers and having them as my coffee treat.
If you don’t have the book Dorie’s Anytime Cakes by Dorie Greenspan, get it and join us as we bake through it every month. Don’t forget to check out the rest of the TWD Blogroll and all the other participation deets over on Tuesdays with Dorie!

Wow, that looks fantastic, and I think that slice on its side has had a bit too much of the boozy! Just kidding, it looks great and I’m with you, my pan has those slim little slices between the larger ones as well and the slims are mine and the larger ones go to everyone else, I love that pan for that reason. 🙂 Very nice write up about TWD BWD (and the rest of the books from Dorie)…it was a bit of a shock moment when she had the BFMHTY book with a 20 on it! Twenty Years!!! I’ve been baking with you almost 20 years???? Were you ten? Thank you for keeping it going. xo

That combination of rum and cider syrup sounds divine.

You are simply amazing. Congrats again on completing another Dorie baking addition. Wow. And speaking of amazing…THIS recipe. Utterly divine. And you had me laughing at your explanation of the “little slices”. I actually do the same…. 🙂

Aw…maybe you can screen shot it for us. I didn’t see that. Your cake looks so delicious and I always love hearing how you create a twist on the recipe…they always sound so spot on and great!! So happy to be baking alongside you for all these years.
